The Studio. Body Libra is a spacious, yet intimate, fully-equipped Pilates/TRX® Suspension Training™ studio conveniently located across from the new Annapolis Towne Centre at Parole in Annapolis, Md. Owned and operated by Noelle Richmond, a classically trained and fully-certified Pilates teacher, Body Libra offers a friendly, inviting atmosphere for men and women seeking the optimal fitness training experience.
A full array of top of the line Peak Pilates equipment – including three Reformer/Tower combination units, the Cadillac, High and Low Chairs, Ladder Barrel, Ped-O-Pull, Spine Corrector and Small Barrel – are all utilized to tailor private, duet or small group sessions to meet each participant’s needs. This spring, Body Libra added three TRX® Suspension Trainers. With its focus on building strength, balance and flexibillity, TRX® Suspension Training™ offers a full-body workout that is the ideal complement to Pilates.
At Body Libra, Noelle has created a comfortable, non-competitive and welcoming environment. In addition to offering fitness training with a personal touch, Body Libra’s attractive and comfortable reception area for clients arriving early for their appointments or relaxing after a vigorous workout, refreshing beverages, private changing room, and lending library of health and fitness books and DVDs are the “little extras” that demonstrate Noelle’s commitment to clients.
About Noelle. Like most of us who are interested in maintaining their health and fitness, I have participated in an array of aerobics and weight training programs throughout my life and, while they offered many benefits, I was always in search of something more. Specifically, I was seeking an exercise program that combined mental focus with physical movement, would continually “raise the bar” by providing ever increasing challenges, and would work all the muscles of my body while, at the same time, protecting my joints. My initial Pilates lesson at Excel Movement Studios in Washington, DC convinced me I had found exactly what I was looking for — a vigorous, full-body, non-impact workout that would challenge me and yet be adaptable in my “golden years”! After four years as a student, I enrolled in the inaugural class of Excel’s teacher training program and received my certification upon completion of this rigorous 700-hour course in 2002. Prior to opening Body Libra, I taught for 3 years at Excel, and subsequently worked at several gyms, taught classes at our hospital’s Wellness Center, and saw private clients in their homes.
Once again, I found myself wanting more. The idea of creating a personalized Pilates experience in a non-competitive, inviting atmosphere, without the burden of membership fees, offering client-centered services without the constraints of cumbersome rules and regulations inherent in a larger corporation began to evolve. With my decision to open Body Libra at a local health and fitness center in May 2006 and the relocation to a larger independent facility the following year, that dream became a reality. In the spring of 2010, the addition of TRX® Suspension Training™ to the studio offers clients a challenging and powerful new exercise system whose principles are closely aligned with those of Pilates.
Witnessing the transformative power of Pilates, and now TRX®, through my clients both rewards and inspires me. Sharing the positive changes they experience as they progress through the work and apply its principles to their life’s activities – whether it’s driving a car, sitting at a desk, carrying the groceries, playing tennis or golf, or running a marathon – motivates me to pursue continuing educational opportunities to advance my skills and enhance their experience. If you’re looking for an exercise experience tailored to help you meet your fitness goals that is both challenging and enjoyable under the guidance of a knowledgeable, innovative and supportive teacher, I created Body Libra with you in mind.
Kelly Boring. Kelly began practicing Pilates after the birth of her first child. Like so many others, she was amazed at just how wonderful and challenging Pilates could be. Shortly after having her second child, she began the instructor certification process through Peak Pilates. Kelly earned her Comprehensive Certification through Peak Pilates by completing Levels I, II, and III, and continuing education courses on the Chair and Barrel equipment. She is also certified as a Personal Trainer by the American Council on Exercise (ACE) and is a Certified Spinning Instructor.
Prior to becoming a mom and Pilates Instructor, Kelly was an All-American swimmer at the U.S. Naval Academy. Following graduation and commission as an Officer in the U.S. Navy, Kelly spent ten years as a Naval Aviator. As a C-2A (COD) pilot, she delivered mail and cargo to aircraft carriers deployed throughout the Western Pacific, Indian Ocean, and the Persian Gulf. She returned to Annapolis as a Swim Instructor at the Naval Academy, and has made Annapolis home for the past 8 years.
Kelly loves to work with a variety of clients, including athletes, pre and post-natal clients, and those with lower back pain. Having been a member of each of these groups at various times, she understands the unique challenges each individual faces. Kelly truly believes in the Pilates method and all that it has to offer.
Daphne Glover-Ferrier. As an award-winning documentary producer, Daphne travels the world capturing stories that touch the heart. Her easy-going manner and positive attitude are her signature trademarks – qualities that she now employs as a Pilates instructor. She started Pilates as a way to get in shape for her wedding 3 years ago, and she was soon hooked. Daphne chose to become certified through Peak Pilates in order to share her love of Pilates with others.
When she’s not wrangling a documentary production crew in the wilds of Africa or instructing a rigorous Pilates session in West Annapolis, Daphne can likely be found in a yoga studio, hiking a trail, kayaking a river, entertaining friends and family, or exploring the Chesapeake with her husband Bob and their golden retriever Baxter.
