About Body Libra

Like most of us who are interested in maintaining their health and fitness, I have participated in an array of aerobics and weight training programs throughout my life and, while they offered many benefits, I was always in search of something more.

Specifically, I was seeking an exercise program that combined mental focus with physical movement, would continually “raise the bar” by providing ever increasing challenges, and would work all the muscles of my body while, at the same time, protecting my joints. My initial Pilates lesson at Excel Movement Studios in Washington, DC convinced me I had found exactly what I was looking for — a vigorous, full-body, non-impact workout that would challenge me and yet be adaptable in my “golden years”!

After four years as a student, I enrolled in the inaugural class of Excel’s teacher training program and received my certification upon completion of this rigorous 700-hour course in 2002. Prior to opening Body Libra, I taught for 3 years at Excel, and subsequently worked at several gyms, taught classes at our hospital’s Wellness Center, and saw private clients in their homes.

Once again, I found myself wanting more.

The idea of creating a personalized Pilates experience in a non-competitive, inviting atmosphere, without the burden of membership fees, offering client-centered services without the constraints of cumbersome rules and regulations inherent in a larger corporation began to evolve. With my decision to open Body Libra at a local health and fitness center in May 2006 and the relocation to a larger independent facility the following year, that dream became a reality.  In the spring of 2010, the addition of TRX® Suspension Training™ to the studio offers clients a challenging and powerful new exercise system whose principles are closely aligned with those of Pilates.

Witnessing the transformative power of Pilates, and now TRX®,  through my clients both rewards and inspires me. Sharing the positive changes they experience as they progress through the work and apply its principles to their life’s activities – whether it’s driving a car, sitting at a desk, carrying the groceries, playing tennis or golf, or running a marathon – motivates me to pursue continuing educational opportunities to advance my skills and enhance their experience. If you’re looking for an exercise experience tailored to help you meet your fitness goals that is both challenging and enjoyable under the guidance of a knowledgeable, innovative and supportive teacher, I created Body Libra with you in mind.
